Barbara "Barby" Jean Ward, aged 54, passed away on May 31, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born on March 27, 1971, in Santa Maria, California, to John Robert DeRosa and Constance Rose Lester. Barby will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Constance Scott of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Sonya Hodges, also of Amarillo, Texas; and her daughters, Marissa Rose of Pinellas Park, FL, and Miranda Ward, along with her grandchildren, Aiden, Alexia, Akaleyanna, Xavier, Elijah, Niklaus, Malachi, and Ezekiel, all of Hudson, Florida. Barby was preceded in death by her father, John Robert DeRosa, and her son, Michael James DeRosa-Richards. Barby leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews: Hector, Juan, Denise, Miguel, and Yessica Del Fierro. She also had many friends in Amarillo that mourn her passing. The funeral service honoring Barbara Jean Ward will be at the Church of Christ on Bushland Rd, 6701 Bushland Rd, Amarillo, TX 79119 at 4:00 on June 21st of 2025. Born on January 1, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, David dedicated his life to public service and touched countless lives with his generosity, humor, and unwavering commitment to justice. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma School of Law, David's political journey was marked by his tenure as the youngest Speaker of the House and later as the State's Attorney General. He championed causes such as civil rights, environmental protection, and public education funding. David's impact extended beyond politics, as he excelled in private law practice, representing those in need with skill and dedication. David's personal life was equally rich. His marriage to Gail Chasey in 2003 brought joy and companionship, and together they navigated the realms of politics and family. A loving father survived by four children and cherished grandchildren, David's influence went far beyond the political arena. David Norvell's legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and a deep love for family and community. His indomitable spirit will be missed, but his impact on New Mexico's social and political landscape will endure.
