In Loving Memory of Richard Anthony Drago (Dick) – June 25, 1945 - November 2, 2023 Tampa, Florida bids farewell to a legendary figure in the baseball world, Richard Anthony Drago (Dick), who passed away on November 2, 2023, due to complications following surgery. Born on June 25, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, Dick's legacy transcends his remarkable career in baseball, leaving an indelible mark on the sport and the hearts of those who knew him. Graduating from Woodward High School in 1963, Dick's extraordinary talent led him to be drafted by the Detroit Tigers Organization in 1964, marking the beginning of an illustrious career. Notably, in 1969, he threw the first complete game in Kansas City Royals history, contributing to 53 complete games during his five-year Royal career. In 1973, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox, where he became a key player in two World Series appearances, pitching three scoreless innings in Game Six in 1975. Over his 13 seasons in the major leagues, Dick accumulated 108 victories, 58 saves, and 62 complete games, solidifying his place in baseball history before retiring in 1981. Post-retirement, he continued to contribute to the sport through charity events, Legends Games, and his involvement with organizations like A Glove of Their Own and the All-American Girls Baseball league. Dick's passion extended beyond the diamond; he was a devoted family man, frequently expressing pride in his children, Darren, Justin, and Dina, and his grandchildren, Taylor and Haley.
